Folk Dances / Los Viejos

Learning about the significance of Folk Dances in Mexico

This lesson introduces students to Mexican culture through dance and to the understanding how older citizens are represented and respected in Mexico.

Los Viejitos is traditionally done by men or boys, although there is no reason why girls could not participate. However, a boy would be chosen first.  Once dressed in costume (see materials list), dancers  need to take on the appearence of an older person. The dancers need to bend their knees and lean on their canes with one hand and keep their other hand on their hip.
