This unit of study focuses on the corn tortilla. Corn is an important product of the Mexican agricultural community. It can be made into a pozole and used to make tortillas and tamales. The Tortilla Factory, by Gary Paulsen, illustrates the growth cycle of the corn plant, and the process of making tortillas. It is representative of the Hispanic culture and its people.
